About the lecturer
Aliona Grossu is an active NGO worker and a human rights defender.
Dr. Grossu has been working closely with general human rights and, specifically, minority rights issues as well as gender aspects.
Dr. Grossu is the director the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova. She used to work with several Moldovan NGOs, leading the Center for Ethnic Integration of Moldova, the International Centre for Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights “La Strada” Moldova, cooperating with think thanks and civil society organizations, international organisations in the country as well as abroad in the positions of national, international expert and consultant.
Her professional experience was also related to the support for the implementation of migration and development pillars of the Global Approach to Migration and Mobility of the EU.
Aliona Grossu was elected as a member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities in respect of the Republic of Moldova in 2018 for her second mandate, after her first term in 2010-2014. She is currently the first vice-president of the Ac FCNM.
Aliona Grossu is the alumni of the International Visitors Leadership Program on Ethnic Minorities Empowerment of the US Department of State.
She has an academic background in international and institutional law and economics.
